You must have a qualifying medical condition as set forth by the State of Georgia in order to be able to be certified for a Georgia Low-THC Oil Registration Card. If you are unsure about whether or not you have a qualifying medical condition, please refer to the list of qualifying conditions by clicking here. If you want to make an appointment for certification, please click here to answer a few questions to see if you would qualify.
We pre-screen all patients for certification so that, if you do not have a qualifying medical condition, you will not be able to make an appointment for certification. We do not want to waste the time and money of non-qualifying patients. We predetermine whether or not you are qualified by having you answer a set of questions. If your answers establish that you would qualify for certification, then you will be sent an email with instructions on how to prepare for a certification appointment.
You will need to provide us with supporting medical documentation which verifies your diagnosis of a qualifying condition, prior treatment for that condition, and a list of your current medications for Dr. Murad, the MMT medical doctor, to review prior to your initial appointment. You will need to provide identification and proof of Georgia residency (i.e., valid Georgia driver’s license). You will also be asked to complete our set of new patient forms.
The answer is absolutely! It is not uncommon for patients to be certified by another doctor or clinic and then be left to their own devices to figure out how to obtain the medical marijuana they are approved to utilize. This can be a difficult task whether or not you have experience with cannabis. So, if you have your Card but do not know what medical marijuana products to get or from where, then our Non-Certification Package is for you. Our medical team will develop a customized treatment plan for you that identifies the best medical marijuana products you need to address your specific health issues, where to purchase them, and how to dose them.
If you would like to make a Non-Certification appointment, click here. Prior to your appointment, you will need to provide us with a copy of your Georgia Low-THC Oil Registration Card and complete our new patient forms.
After your appointment, we will email you the Low-THC Waiver Form required by the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) to be completed and notarized. Once we receive your notarized form, your information will be entered in the DPH Low-THC Registry as eligible to receive a Card. This is called certification.
Once your information is entered in the Registry, DPH verifies your information and prints your Card. You will be sent an email with a link to the DPH payment portal. You will need to pay $30 to the State of Georgia for your Card. Your Card will be mailed to your home address or sent to the DPH office of your choice for pick up. After you receive your Card, you will be able to purchase products in a Georgia dispensary. You can take the customized treatment plan you received from us to a Georgia dispensary so you will be ensured to purchase the correct products for your condition(s). Dispensary personnel are not medical professionals and, therefore, are not qualified to consider your personal medical situation and how cannabis can interact with the medications you take. But, we are and we do.
Yes we do! With verifying identification, we offer discounts to seniors, students, and veterans on our Certification services. And, we periodically run promotions on our Certification services which can found on our Facebook page.
Georgia law requires that we monitor your progress with medical marijuana to ensure that you are receiving proper and effective treatment. Once you have been processed through our Certification Package, you will need to keep us updated on your progress. You are encouraged to make an appointment to see Dr. Murad, the MMT medical doctor, annually. In addition, since the Georgia Low-THC Oil Registration Card is only valid for two years, you would need to see Dr. Murad prior to its expiration date so that we can renew your Card by updating your record in the Low-THC Registry.
Once you are a patient of ours, you can contact our Cannabis Consultant any time and as often as you need for assistance with determining what CBD and/or Low-THC products you should purchase and where you should purchase them. Some fees may apply if you need to make an appointment with her to discuss evolving issues in further detail.
Even if you do not qualify for certification, you may still want to meet with our Cannabis Consultant to obtain advice on CBD products that can offer relief for your ailments. This type of appointment is called Product Advisory Services and it is for those who do not have a Georgia Low-THC Oil Registration Card and do not qualify for one. The Cannabis Consultant will discuss with you the various methods of utilizing CBD and dosing strengths to determine the optimal CBD treatment plan for you. With patients who are minors, Medical Marijuana Therapeutics takes extra precautionary measures and follows protocols specifically designed to protect their health and well-being. Parents or legal guardians of patients under 18 years old can apply for the Low-THC Oil Registration Card if their minor child has a severe case of at least one of the qualifying medical conditions specified by the State of Georgia. Medical documentation must be provided that verifies the severe diagnosis of the qualifying disease. Since there are potential risks to minors taking medical marijuana, Dr. Murad, the MMT medical doctor and retired Pediatrician, will review all medical records to determine whether there is enough benefit to the minor child in taking medical marijuana to offset the risks. If she feels comfortable with certifying the minor child, the parents or guardians will be registered as caregivers and each will receive a Low-THC Oil Registration Card for the minor child.
Patients under 18 years of age, who have disorders that do not qualify for certification, may want to consider utilizing the safe and superior-quality CBD products sold by Medical Marijuana Therapeutics. These CBD products can be effective treatment for many medical issues people have that are not qualifying for the Card and can pose less risks to minor patients than medical marijuana which can contain up to 5% of THC. To discuss these options with our Cannabis Consultant, click here to request an appointment.
Medical Marijuana Therapeutics does not accept cash or a check but does accept credit or debit card payments through Square. Payment is expected at least 24 hours prior to the time of your appointment. Once payment is received, the link to your appointment will be emailed to you so you can click on it to enter our virtual waiting room.
We frequently run promotions for our services. We also offer discounts for seniors, students, and veterans. And, if you need a payment plan, we can set one up for you.
We require that you remit payment for your appointment at least 24 hours prior to the start of your appointment to allow enough time for the appointment link to be emailed to you. If this deadline passes without payment or communication from you regarding your need to reschedule, your appointment will automatically be cancelled. We will inform you of the cancellation through an email. If you are a no-show, you will be required to pay $50 to reserve a future appointment which will be subtracted from the total amount due for your eventual appointment.
Unfortunately, marijuana is still federally illegal so health insurance companies will most likely not cover doctor consultations regarding medical marijuana or medical marijuana treatments themselves. Therefore, full payment is expected at the time of service or partial payment if you are on a payment plan. However, if you think your health insurance might cover it, we can generate a receipt that shows you came to us for a consultation on an alternative treatment for your medical condition which you can use to submit a claim to your insurance.
You will have several ways to provide Medical Marijuana Therapeutics with your health records. You can mail them to us through the post office or you can email them to us on our secured server at [email protected], both of which are 100% HIPAA compliant. All personal medical information provided is protected and completely safe. Under normal circumstances, it would be a HIPAA violation to send health records to us via email. However, due to COVID-19, the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) at the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued a notice to the public that it would longer exercise its Notification of Enforcement Discretion to enable doctors to conduct patient exams via telemedicine. It is currently not a violation to email personal medical documents. If you decide to email any medical documentation to us, you will be asked to sign a HIPAA Waiver form prior to sending them.
The certification information about you is entered into a Low-THC Registry controlled by the State of Georgia. This data is stored in a Georgia Department of Public Health database which is not controlled by Medical Marijuana Therapeutics. Therefore, we cannot attest to the adherence of HIPAA regulations by the State.
Georgia’s medical marijuana law allows certain qualified persons to legally possess up to 20 fluid ounces of “low THC oil,” which is derived from the marijuana plant. It authorizes the Georgia Department of Public Health to issue a “Low-THC Oil Registration Card” to qualified persons, which will prove that they are authorized to have the oil and protect them from arrest.
Georgia’s law is much more limited than some other states’ medical marijuana laws. For example, it does not legalize the sale or possession of marijuana in leaf form and it does not authorize the production or sale of food products infused with low THC oil or the ingestion of low THC oil through vapor. No doctor can prescribe marijuana for medical use; they are only allowed to authorize its use for qualifying patients. Georgia’s law is intended solely to protect qualified persons from criminal prosecution for possessing Low-THC oil for medicinal purposes.
There are three categories of persons who may apply for the card:
The law lists the following conditions and diseases which qualify for the Low-THC Oil Registry:
– Cancer, when such diagnosis is end stage or the treatment produces related wasting illness or recalcitrant nausea and vomiting
– Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, when such diagnosis is severe or end stage
– Seizure disorders related to diagnosis of epilepsy or trauma related head injuries
– Multiple sclerosis, when such diagnosis is severe or end stage
– Crohn’s disease
– Mitochondrial disease
– Parkinson’s disease, when such diagnosis is severe or end stage
– Sickle cell disease, when such diagnosis is severe or end stage
– Tourette’s syndrome, when such syndrome is diagnosed as severe
– Autism spectrum disorder, when (a) patient is 18 years of age or more, or (b) -patient is less than 18 years of age and diagnosed with severe autism
– Epidermolysis bullosa
– Alzheimer’s disease, when such disease is severe or end stage
– AIDS when such syndrome is severe or end stage
– Peripheral neuropathy, when symptoms are severe or end stage
– Patient is in hospice program, either as inpatient or outpatient
– Intractable pain
– Post-traumatic stress disorder resulting from direct exposure to or witnessing of a trauma for a patient who is at least 18 years of age
If a minor child has more than one parent or legal guardian, then each may apply for a separate Caregiver’s card. There is a limit of two caregivers per patient.
Patients with a qualifying condition must consult with a registered doctor about getting certified for the Card. If approved by the doctor who is treating the patient or by a doctor who can verify a qualifying condition by reviewing the patient’s medical records, then two forms must be completed. First, there is a waiver form which must be signed by both the applicant and a notary. Second, there is a physician certification form. The physician will keep the original waiver and certification form in the patient’s medical records. You may request a copy. The physician will electronically submit the information from these forms to the Georgia Department of Public Health, which will review the information and print a Low-THC Oil Registration Card for qualified applicants.
Low-THC Cards take at least 10 business days from the time your doctor certifies you in the Low-THC Registry to be ready for mailing to your home address or for pick up at one of the 42 County Health Office locations. You can request your Card be mailed to your address of record in the Registry. After you submit payment to DPH, your Card will be shipped to you. If you prefer to pick your Card, you can request it be sent to a health department location for pick up. If you do not select a location, your Card will be shipped to the location closest to the your residence. A representative from the selected County Health Office will notify you when your Card is available for pick-up. You must show a valid Georgia driver’s license, state-issued ID, passport, military ID, or another valid form of identification to pick up your Card.
The fee for a new Low-THC Registration Card is $30, payable to the State of Georgia, and is not covered by health insurance. If you choose to pick up your Card from one of the 42 County Health Offices approved to distribute them, you will be asked to pay for your Card when you pick it up.
The Card will be valid for five years from the date it is issued. The expiration date will be printed on the front of the Card. After that time, you will need to again consult with your doctor and request that they update and confirm your information in the Low-THC Registry. Please plan to allow at least 10 business days to process your information, print your Card and either mail it to your home address or have it ready for pick up from one of the 42 County Health Offices approved to distribute them.
Cards are already laminated. The Card will be voided if any changes are made to it.
If you lose your Card, please contact the Low-THC Oil Program at 770-909-2765. If your Card has not expired, your physician will be contacted to confirm you are still under their care. Once confirmed, a replacement card will be provided to you. Please plan to allow 10 business days to process your information, print your card and have it ready for pick up at your closest County Health Office. Replacement cards will cost $25.
If the information on your Card is wrong or outdated, please contact the Low-THC Oil Program at 770-909-2765. They will verify the information provided by your doctor in your record. If the information in your record is incorrect, you will need to contact your doctor and ask that they update the information. At that time, a new Card will be issued.
Patients and caregivers may authorize another individual to pick up their Low-THC Oil Card from the health department on their behalf with a signed authorization form which can be downloaded from the DPH website. The individual picking up the Card should have identification for themselves as well as the cardholder.
Low-THC Oil can show up on drug tests and should be used at the patient’s discretion. Georgia law does not prevent an employer from testing for the use of cannabis (for any reason) or taking action against an employee who tests positive for the use of cannabis (for any reason), regardless of authorization to use it for medicinal purposes. It is completely up to an employer to determine its policy regarding its employees using medical marijuana, on and off the job. You should check with your employer regarding their policy on medicinal cannabis use and act accordingly.
Under House Bill 324, the Georgia Access to Medical Cannabis Commission, which is administratively assigned to the Secretary of State’s Office, will oversee the growing, manufacturing, and dispensing of Low-THC oil in Georgia. The Georgia Department of Public Health does not prescribe or dispense Low-THC oil but the licensed companies do. The two licensed companies who have opened dispensaries in Georgia have a combined nine locations in operation.
No. The law only authorizes the legal possession of up to 20 fluid ounces of Low-THC oil by qualified persons. It does not make the sale or possession of all types of marijuana legal in Georgia. Possession of any form of marijuana by an unauthorized person is and remains a violation of state and federal law.
No. Only those companies issued a license by the Georgia Access to Medical Cannabis Commission will be allowed to grow, manufacture, and dispense Low-THC oil in Georgia. It is a violation of state and federal law for unauthorized persons to sell any form of marijuana.
